It’s always a good day when we can share another coming out story. This time we’re reporting on Teen Wolf heart throb Charlie Carver and his recent coming out.
He came out as gay in an essay post on Instagram on Monday, January 11th. It was previously speculated that he was gay- but those of course, were loose speculations just based on the grounds that he played gay characters.
The star of the Teen Wolf TV series had let everybody know that the inspiration to come out stemmed from a quote that said, “Be who you needed when you were younger.” This we can understand.
His close friends and family already knew that he was gay and thus fart has received considerable support and acceptance. He decided to not come out earlier on in his Hollywood career so that his roles couldn’t be shaped by clichés, expectations and assumptions. His decision to come put publicly had more to do with his current fame and becoming a positive role model within the LGBT community and beyond.
Charlie said, “I wanted to believe in a world where one’s sexuality was for the most part irrelevant. … Furthermore, as an actor, I believed that my responsibility to the craft and the business was to remain benevolently neutral — I was a canvas, a chameleon, the next character…
He continues,
…I now believe that by omitting this part of myself from the record, I am complicit in perpetuating the suffering, fear, and shame cast upon so many in the world. … So now, let the record show this — I self-identify as gay. And does that really matter anymore? As a young man, I needed a young man in Hollywood to say that — and without being a d‑‑‑ about it, I owe it to myself, more than anything, to be who I needed when I was younger.”
I agree completely with his choice and I want to say congratulations to him for coming out and stepping forward. Just remember that if you deal with the same stress that it’s okay to stay in the closet if you face danger in your life or pick and choose who you come out to. Stay safe and once again shout out to Charlie Carver for being a role model!
