Many times I have talked about how peaceful, lighthearted activism is my favorite thing. In fact I just covered it in an article last week when an homophobic Religious group forgot to renew their domain and in return, a social justice warrior bought it and made it re-direct to a gay porn site (read here). With that in mind, we present something even funnier. Recently, a special surprise was left deep in the North Atlantic by the Swedish Navy. Russian Seamen Surprised? You betcha!
We all know how relaxed Sweden with the gay agenda and how hardcore Russia is against it but now Sweden took a stand on their views. This year Russian submarines have been gaining access and infiltrating Swedish territory. So in order to keep the Russian submarines out the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society decided to place a keep out sign in the water right off of the Stockholm Archipelago.
This is no ordinary sign though. It features a neon pink, half naked, gay, sailor that’s dancing. On the sign in both English and Russian the sign says, “Welcome to Sweden. Gay since 1944.” This is perfect seeing as Sweden was one of the first nations to legalize gay, long before the fight for equal rights even began.
As well as this the Swedish Peace and Arbitration society have also installed what they call a “Singing Sailor Underwater Defense System” which dispatches a Morse code message using sonar. What does the message say? The message says, “This way if you are gay.”
Well ahoy mate!
What do you think about that seaman? We’re hoping that Russia catches on to equality soon. The horrors that gays in Russia have to face are terrifying beyond belief. This acts as a lighthearted response to their discriminatory laws but the facts are that Russia is not in a good place right now. As a response to the little bit of activism that Sweden displayed this is what they had to say courtesy of Anna Ek president of the group in a Huffington Post article, ” The aim of the campaign is to try and take back the discussion to where it should be. Military rearmaments haven’t created stable peace. We have tried for many years and still we see wars and conflict … Some people may think it’s a bit silly but it’s also about making love, not war. It’s as simple as that.”
