How exciting is it that with each passing year pride is pulling more people in for the sake of love, acceptance and humanity. Word has it that it’s only getting bigger and bigger. It all started with the Stonewall riots of 1969 in Greenwich Village and now pride events are getting larger, including more people and popping up all over the word and so far this year Canada is taking the gold.
First off, the city of Quesnel, British Columbia announces their very first pride parade that a local teacher headed. Her statements to the press in “I just want our kids and young adults to feel empowered to be themselves,” said Heenan.
There will be RCMP and extra security on site, but Heenan doesn’t think it will be necessary.
“Quesnel is a really supportive community, and I’ve seen a lot of growth,” said Heenan. “It’s time.”
So, it’s safe fun and taking place this year. If you’re in the area of Quesnel for June 6th at 2pm you’ll have some major pride partying, word spreading and tears for the birth of new activism, love and acceptance.
Canada isn’t done with their pride events yet. It may not be this year but we know Montreal, Quebec will make it big with their first ever pride parade coming to you 2017.
It’s going to be the first ever “Canada Pride” (even though, didn’t they try to separate their province from Canada. It will last 10 days from August 11-20. They hope to bring in around 1 million people and it shouldn’t be hard with their $2-2.3 million budget.
It also sounds like a lot of fun with conferences on LGBT right, parties, parades and games. The creator Fierte Montreal, of this Pride event commented to the press not only thought it was time for Montreal to reassert its position in Canada’s LGBT movement, but knew we could pull off a very professional and polished Canada Pride because we already have the infrastructure in place.
It’s also awesome that Toronto will be celebrating their 375th birthday in 2017 just in time for a blast of pride acceptance.
It’s so great that new pride events are coming up every year and we’ll keep you updated every time we hear or see something. Or look back on our old posts for other cool pride events.
