“The U. S. Constitution doesn’t guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.” -Benjamin Franklin
Barack Obama made history when he was elected as the first black president and after that changes and acceptance kept coming thanks to him. Later on, in 2011, Jeremy Bernard also made history when he was elected as the first openly gay White House Social Secretary. On top of that, he was also the first man to obtain that position and hold that post.
In case you didn’t know a social secretary is somebody who arranges the social activities of a person or organization. Unfortunately, Jeremy Bernard will be stepping down this year. After serving in the position for about four years, he will no longer be planning the social events and coordinating gatherings at the White House . He will officially be done there within the next few weeks. To date there has been no direct comment from the White House or from Bernard as to why he has picked now to step down.
Gaystarnews says, “Bernard, 53, was previously a prominent Democratic fundraiser and gay rights advocate who served for eight years on the Democratic National Committee.
Prior to his current post, he worked in the Obama Administration as the White House liaison to the National Endowment for the Humanities. He was later sent to Paris where he worked as senior adviser and chief of staff to the US Ambassador to France.”
We’re sad to see him go, he was an incredible advocate for the LGBT community and inspired us with impeccable work ethic. We hope that wherever he goes next he continues to be an excellent role model and is successful, thriving and happy. Hopefully now many in select southern States can take some tips from the white house and allow people of all colors, genders and sexual orientations to live equally and in harmony together.
