In this article we are going to dive into the dirty details of online dating for gay men. By now you have probably heard all the stereotypes pertaining to this topic. You know about the rumored dick pics and the crazy hook up culture but is that what is really happening? Are these rumored topics really as popular as media makes it seem?

Lucky for us Huffington Post did a lot of hard work compiling a survey on gay dating trends this February 2015 that just passed. They asked close to 4,000 gay men to make sure that variety was in there. So, if you’ve ever used a dating app (perhaps AllMale?) you can now compare your real life experience to 4,000 other gay men. Let’s learn about gay dating trends!

There are a few details we wanted to examine from this Infographic…

Fact 1: 30% of gay men are okay with going on a date WITHOUT seeing your face first.

Perhaps it’s revolutionary and they are okay with finding a match just based on your personality or maybe it’s the renowned hook up culture making it acceptable to find a connection based on the quality of the sext.

Fact 2: 31% of gay men will like about their physical appearance and/or their age.

Okay, well this one isn’t shocking by any means I’m sure we all figured that there is some fibbing going into making online profiles. The only thing I wonder about this statistic is how many people have lied about lying on their profile. I think this might be just a bit higher.

Fact 3: 55% of gay men who meet will hook up.

It could be said that you expected every single person to hook up much like the author of The Huffington Post article who was shocked that 45% of gay men who meet up don’t hook up. They have mused that perhaps it’s because the fact that they 31% percent of gay men on dating sites lie about their appearance… I think they are onto something.

Fact 4: 50% of gay men on dating sites decide to meet up for the first time in their homes.

It’s definitely not something I would ever imagine, talking to somebody and going on a first date at their house. That seems to fit the bill of stranger danger to a tee. Especially with many out there who are still homophobic and the stories of bullying and harassment gay men receive. I would suggest meeting in a public place for the first time.

And now the fact that you have all been waiting for…

Fact 5: 83% of gay men have sent a dick pic to somebody from an online dating site.

You knew they were popular but did you know that they are THAT popular? If you have sent or received one yourself you probably did know that. Think about it though… that means that almost every man on the dating site has sent a picture of his privates to somebody. Is it liberating and the most important question are they lying about the appearance of their dicks? Is catfish penis the next big thing?

These are definitely some of the more fun facts that have come from the survey. You will also be able to see a sadder side with a stigma to dating black men and those who have HIV. Humanity is making progress towards love and acceptance but there is still a long way to go even in marginalized groups.
