Bisexual men. Yes, they do exist. Why is it so hard for society to wrap their mind around the idea of a male being attracted to both sexes meanwhile females are wholeheartedly accepted as bisexual? Well, maybe females are mostly sexually acceptable which is another issue on its own for another blog but right now we’re going to talk about male bisexuals and common bisexual myths.
Studies done by The New York Times have composed a list of reasons males struggle with having their identity as bisexual to be accepted. One of the first major reasons that are applicable to both male and female is that most people think bisexuality just doesn’t exist.
There are many people who just can’t wrap their mind around somebody liking opposing sexes and genders. They cannot understand and they believe that you’re either gay or straight. This point is applicable to male, female and even transgender bisexuals but it’s the basis in the issue of understanding male bisexuals.
The second problem that arises when coming to terms with bisexual men is that there is a belief that all bisexuals are incredibly or overtly sexual. As soon as you like members of both sexes it is automatically assumed that you’re having raging sex with everybody. When in reality, a lot of bisexuals are just looking for relationships like everybody else.
Next they have to deal with everybody assuming that every bisexual male wants a threesome. Not to say that not bisexual male will ever want a threesome but when the automatic assumption is a gay male only wants something surrounding sex it gets tiring. Some gay males just want a relationship and the only difference is they don’t care what gender you are.
When you’re a guy people assume that you’re actually just gay. In all fairness bisexuality is used a lot as a stepping stone to coming out of the closet as gay but sometimes you just really want people to understand that it’s possible to be attracted to both sexes.
The last problem is that people like to think that if you’re a perfect bisexual that you’ve been with both genders equally. If you state that you like girls a little more then you’re seen as straight if you say guys then you’re most definitely gay in their eyes.
If you’re not bisexual I ask that after looking at this article that you do your best to get rid of judgement and ideas that you hold about bisexuals. A lot of them are just looking for somebody to date without the looming idea and expectations.
