For a long time gays have been stereotyped as being flamboyant, weak and feminine. Even though some are and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being however you want to be the fact still stands that this is an incredible misrepresentation.
Director Christopher Hines was looking to change this archaic view by releasing a movie called, “Bad Ass Gays.” In collaboration with Rogue Culture Productions and Logo TV the movie was released in the fall of 2014. If you haven’t seen it yet it’s not something you want to miss.
The movie features gay men doing things that are typically considered “bad ass” and more masculine. It challenges the viewpoint of the traditional and stereotypical gay men.
The film features boxers, wrestlers, hockey players, military men and motorcycle racers who go beyond the regular grueling situations that they are involved in to also have to perform under the emotional pressure of not being accepted completely into the community yet.
The film is about interviewing these men and finding out what challenges they face, what drives them to succeed and what their thoughts are on being stereotyped in the industries and interests that they like and have chosen. It’s like a real like Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99.
These men are pioneers to other closeted gay men who are scared to take that step forward for fear of being judged in masculine dominated areas.
Watch the trailer below. The LGBT community is working towards equality in all areas and films like this are able to reach out.
Unfortunately we haven’t found online streaming for this video so you’ll have to tune into Logo TV and catch the next airing of it.
In the meantime, check out other men who have come out of the closet since this film was created. Read about baseball player David Denson’s coming out story and Ice Man who is fictional but still making waves. Continue to support LGBT and fight for equality. We’re getting closer every day.
